One Million Trees for Schools
2025 opened with more trees being planted across school grounds in Belfast as part of the One Million Trees project.
Imagine a city with one million trees…
What would that look like?
How much different would Belfast be?
We have a feeling we won’t be relying on imagination for much longer thanks to the enthusiastic eco warriors from schools across Belfast! Belfast Hills Partnership have been out planting trees at schools across Belfast. This is part of the One Million Trees project.
Belfast Hills Partnership have been out with over 397 pupils from an array of schools across Belfast. This included Braniel PS, Taughmonagh PS, Harberton Special School (South), St Mary’s Christian Brothers Grammar School and Ligoniel PS. A whopping 1,930 trees have now been planted by the highly enthusiastic students from these schools. This was the first time many of these children planted a tree.
Additionally, each class had a chance to learn about the value of trees and their many benefits such as improving air quality, providing a home for many different birds and animals, and helping to tackle climate change. The children are looking forward to seeing wildlife making a home in their newly planted trees.
Driven by Belfast City Council, the One Million Trees project is a key programme to support climate adaptation across the city. It is a collaboration between public, private and voluntary sector partners.
