Despite the close proximity of the population to the Belfast Hills, no hill specific youth programmes were available which encourage young people to think about how to care for the Belfast Hills and understand the issues involved. Our Environmental Skills Programme enabled 20 students with a specific interest in a future career in the environmental sector to get some practical first hand experience of environmental work. This work was made possible by the support of our partners who work with the young people, giving them an insight into what their work involves.
This programme is now closed, though we run similar programmes through Wild Youth. We also offer training to young people via volunteering activities, QUB Belfast Hills Society and placements.
