The Belfast Hills Ordnance Survey (OS) Map covers the whole of the Belfast Hills area on one side, with three key sites – Cave Hill, Slievenacloy and Carnmoney Hill – in more detail in individual maps on the other. A new insert was launched in 2023 including the expansion of Slievenacloy and the brand new Glas-na-Bradan Wood. This is the only single map covering all of the Belfast Hills area and is 1:25000 scale on the main map and the three key sites are 1:8000.

The map has clear colour coding easily identifying areas of the hills and valleys that are freely accessible to everyone, which means you can head out knowing you’re in the right place. Additionally, the publication provides information on the natural and built heritage of each site.

It is also the only OS Map with all of the new trails that have been built by BHP and others including the National Trust, Woodland Trust and Ulster Wildlife. Along with these new trails, which take walkers to some of the most amazing views across beautiful countryside, the map gives people useful information such as parking, picnic areas and cafés.

A recent update to the map includes a new insert which maps out two new sites: Slievenacloy Nature Reserve and Glas-na-Bradan Wood.  Ulster Wildlife has expanded Slievenacloy Nature Reserve through the purchase of an extensive area adjacent to the original site.  The site is now 258 hectares, equivalent to about 480 football fields.  Glas-na-Bradan Wood was purchased in 2021 by the Woodland Trust Northern Ireland with ambitions to create a new native woodland for people, nature and climate. Both sites have now been mapped for the first time featuring original illustrations by artist, Kathryn Callaghan.
